World Cancer Day 2018

Today, Sunday 4th of February is World Cancer Day, an international event to raise awareness of cancer and how important it is that we do everything we can to prevent it.

Here’s a message from Matt about The Bed & Breakfast Men’s support of cancer charities:

““It’s fitting that this year’s Mad Chat charity of choice is CLIC Sargent Cancer charity as our Ukulele duo has its roots in our early incarnation as “The Lonesome Pines” when we busked for a Saturday every year in aid of Cancer Research. It’s something we got the idea for when Suggs promoted “Busking for Cancer” a few years back. The Lonesome Pines morphed into The Bed & Breakfast Men but our aim is the same to sing the songs we love and raise money for a cause that’s close to our hearts, fund raising should be “fun” after all. It was great to hear that Lee Thompson also supports CLIC sargent and was happy to be on board for our last charity single… We are hoping he’s up for the next one, too. So Keep Moving folks and together we can Compete with Cancer and kick it’s ass off the planet someday soon we hope.”

Today Matt and Nick have released a very fitting and encouraging Madness cover mash-up of ‘Keep Moving’ and ‘I’ll Compete’, first performed by Matt at the Mad Chatter’s Tea Party in November 2017.

As you know, the current Mad Chat charity cause is CLIC Sargent, a charity focused on helping young people diagnosed with cancer. Last Christmas the boys released their second charity single, ‘To the Moon (and Back Again)’ in aid of CLIC Sargent.

Thanks again to everyone who did their bit by buying either a CD, download, DVD, or special package – Over £700 was raised to help young people diagnosed with cancer.

No Money – The Bed & Breakfast Men’s Best Yet?

The boys got some compliments to never forget from some recognisable faces.

Two days ago (Wednesday 25 October) the boys uploaded their latest cover, ‘No Money’. Right now it has been watched by 62 people, and you may just recognise two of them.

One is Nick Woodgate, who co-wrote the song with Madness, who tweeted to say he loves it.

Another is Madness drummer himself, Mr. Woody Woodgate, who gave the boys an amazing compliment!

Matt says “I was thrilled to see that Nick Woodgate had shared our cover of his song “No Money” with his brother Woody. The fact Woody also commented saying ours was better than the original and then sharing it with his followers was just brilliant. So nice that they both liked it”

I’ve tweeted Nick & Woody with invites to join the BBMIS, and I’ll let you all know if they accept. 😉

As our tambourine/harmony master Nick Holt is still unwell let’s all wish him the best at this time.

La Luna & No Money

Here are two new covers from our favourite musical duo.

Here’s La Luna, a single from Madness’ 2013 album ‘Oui Oui, Si Si, Ja Ja, Da Da’. One of their greatest hits available in their latest compilation album ‘Full House’.

Here’s a song I can relate to, a B&B request of mine from a while back. From the 1999 album ‘Wonderful’, co-written by Woody’s brother Nick Woodgate.

I’d also like to wish Nick all the best and a speedy recovery. Get well soon mate!

Video Round-up

Here’s another ‘in case you missed it’ post, giving you three great covers for the price of one.

Mistakes is one of the darker Madness songs written by former member John Hasler. The B-Side to One Step Beyond.

White Heat

From Mad Not Mad written by Suggs and Carl.

Shadow on the House
One of my personal favourites, the B-Side to It Must Be Love.

Hope you all have a great week, look out for more posts throughout the week.

Saturday Night, Sunday Morning

Two more musical delights of sound and vision.

With another gig coming up, Matt and Nick have been busy practicing hard in the studio, and as always have left us the product of their musical knack to show for it.

Saturday Night, Sunday Morning

I knew you’d come back. We always do.

From 1999’s ‘Wonderful’, Madness’ first studio album since Keep Moving in 1984 – Perfectly translated into ukulele for The Bed & Breakfast Men’s spin.

Brand New Beat

A political statement from Lee and Mike.

Released in 1984 and one of Madness’ few political answers, written by Lee and Barzo, this number pokes at Margaret Thatcher’s Britain.

As always, tap the images to experience the magic.

It’s a Mixed-up, Muddled-up, Shook-up World

L-O-L-A, Loooooola, La-la-la-la- Looooolllaaaaa…

…Except for Lola. And that’s exactly what the boys are here to prove today with their cover of Lola by The Kinks, covered by Madness as ‘The Dangermen’. Madness were very fond of the song and played it live a few times before recording it in 2005 for their album of cover songs ‘The Dangermen Sessions’.

L-o-l-a, Lola

Drink a glass of champagne, wonder why it tastes like Coca-Cola, but make no enquiry as Matt and Nick play you their latest cover.

Matt and Nick are back from a Summer break with a bang, bringing us ‘the Madness single that never was’, Victoria Gardens. A triumphant return!
